Members of the Coalition of African American Pastors have  launched a petition drive calling for the impeachment of United States Attorney General Eric Holder.

The Rev. Bill Owens, president and founder of the Coalition, told the National Press Club in a speech Tuesday that Holder had violated his oath of office by trying to “coerce states to fall in line with the same-sex marriage agenda.”

A statement released by CAAP after Owens spoke read: “President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder have turned their backs on the values the American people hold dear, values particularly cherished in the black community: values like marriage, which should be strengthened and promoted, rather than weakened and undermined.”

The  petition on the organization’s web site reads in part, “For abandoning the oath he swore in taking office and his duty to defend the common good, Attorney General Holder should be impeached by Congress. CAAP is calling on all men and women of good will to sign the following petition urging Congress to take action against the Attorney General’s lawlessness today!”

The CAAP is supporting a “March For Marriage” that is set for June 19 in Washington D.C. According to the organization, the march is “in support of the bedrock of society and our culture’s most pro-life and pro-child institution.”

The petition had a little more than 200 signatures by mid-morning. Click here to read the full petition.
