Dr. Deborah Owens addresses Christian duty to speak out
FULSHEAR, Texas – May 27, 2021 – Following a surge in antisemitism, the Coalition of African American Pastors is urging Christians to speak out against the trend of division and racism in our country – including the the rise of critical race theory.
Dr. Deborah Owens, Executive Director of CAAP, took on the issue during an unscripted meditation on current events for the web program Wisdom for Today. Taking as her inspiration, verse John 15:19 (“You do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world.“), Dr. Owens urged Christians to oppose antisemitism and critical race theory in their own communities: “We can’t bury our heads in the sand and pretend these things don’t exist – critical race theory and division, the hate, what’s going on with Israel right now and the Jewish people being targeted.”
“This is a message that every Christian needs to hear,” said Rev. William Owens, President of CAAP. “We have a responsibility to speak out against any ideology that reduces people to the color of their skin or attacks them based on their beliefs.”
“Good people have been intimidated into not speaking out because of the aggressive social media mob and the left’s effort to cancel and silence those who do not fall in line with their rhetoric on race or Israel,” continued Rev. Owens. “But Christians have a duty to defend Biblical truth and Christian values. We cannot ignore what is going on in our world.”
“I’m so glad to see that people like Dr. Deborah Owens are boldly speaking against the rise of critical race theory and the outbreak of antisemitism. If we are to put an end to division, anger, and hate in our country, more Christians need to reach out in love, understanding, and compassion,” concluded Rev. Owens.
