When the first day of hearings for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh was transformed into a circus of screaming, ranting protesters – so much so that his children had to be escorted from the room – I thought we had reached a new low in American political discourse.
I only needed to wait a few days to be proven wrong.
After the hearings were over, with nothing left but the vote on Kavanaugh’s confirmation, Sen Dianne Feinstein (who, it must be noted, is in a tough political race against an even more left wing opponent) suddenly produced an anonymous accusation from a woman who claimed that Kavanaugh had sexually assaulted (i.e. groped) her at a party when they were both in high school – more than 30 years ago. Kavanaugh was supposedly 17 at the time of the attack, while his accuser was 15.
Kavanaugh’s accuser can’t remember the location or the year of this assault. Her version of the story has changed more than once. The accusation has been denied by Kavanaugh and his friend who the accuser named as the “witness” of the alleged assault. It has also been refuted by a letter from 65 women who say they knew Kavanaugh in high school and testify to his character.
Meanwhile, Kavanaugh’s accuser is a liberal Democrat who works at Palo Alto University in California. Not only has she donated to Democratic causes and organizations, but she has also dabbled in anti-Trump activism. Moreover, when her parents’ property was foreclosed on, Kavanaugh was the presiding judge.
Sen. Feinstein has been in possession of the letter from Kavanaugh’s accuser since July, but she only released it after the hearings were over? Why? Because she’s not really interested in fair or unbiased hearings. She’s interested in stopping the confirmation however she can – even if it involves character assassination and trial by Twitter. If Feinstein and her fellow Democrats have to destroy the last remaining shreds of civility and reason to keep control of the Supreme Court, that’s what they’ll do. The democratic process is not as important to them as a Court that will advance a Leftist agenda.
The most disgusting part is that Feinstein and the Senate Democrats know this is an absurd charge. If there was any merit to it, they wouldn’t have waited until now to release the letter. And we cannot possibly believe that the Senate now plans to weigh fitness for office by this standard. How many of them would pass the same test? It’s a delaying tactic, pure and simple. The fact that we’re talking about a man’s reputation, a lifetime of work and service, a family … is totally ignored in a display of sickening political hypocrisy.
I, for one, am tired of this nonsense. We must send a message to the Senate that they cannot ignore. That means influencing the only poll that matters – the one on election day.
