Today is Memorial Day, a day that has come to mark the beginning of summer. For many of us, this weekend means picnics, pool trips, or a pleasant three-day weekend.
There’s nothing wrong with enjoying your Memorial Day. While the reason for today is a solemn one, we should also understand that the great sacrifices made by American servicemen and women throughout our history were made to preserve our way of life. Those who fought for our country did so to ensure our freedom – including the ability to enjoy a picnic with family on a beautiful sunny day.
But while we enjoy the day, let us also take a moment and remember all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We owe them a debt that we can never repay. Let us honor them by recognizing their courage and teaching our children that America is worth fighting for.
On this Memorial Day, I hope you will join me in thanking all those who served, honoring those who fell, and praying for everyone who continues to defend our country.
