You could probably say that defending Christian values comes naturally to the keynote speaker for this year’s CAAP gala.

Before he was a Congressman from Utah, Burgess Owens was an All-American defensive back for the University of Miami, a first round draft pick, a New York Jet, and a member of the Raiders’ 1980 Superbowl team.

Now, Congressman Owens has made a name for himself on Capitol Hill, where he consistently supports the values of faith, life, and family. Here are just a few of his recent positions and statements:

On abortion: Rep. Owens praised the Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade and voted against a bill that would have tried to nationalize radical abortion rights: “As a proud father and grandfather, I will always cherish the undeniable value of every life.”

Responding to threats against the Supreme Court justices: “Just voted YES on the Supreme Court Police Parity Act of 2022 to extend essential security to Justices and their families. Protecting our Supreme Court Justices and their families from assassination attempts and violent threats should not be controversial.”

On school choice: “I am proud to help introduce the Education Choice for Children Act to expand education freedom and help every student reach their God-given potential.”

Rep. Owens also co-sponsored a scholarship bill to help parents over come COVID-based learning loss: “We have an educational system that is not trying to rescue our kids, is not trying to educate our kids,”

On Title IX: “As a former athlete, I know firsthand the blood, sweat, and tears it takes for athletes to excel on the field. The Biden administration’s radical gender agenda deprives hard working female athletes of fair competition, goes against America’s founding principles of equal opportunity, and undermines Title IX protections. I am proud to support the Title IX Congressional Review Act to ensure our daughters have a fair shot at achieving their dreams.”
